A member of the Abu Dhabi royal family was discovered unconscious on a west London street following a cocaine binge, leaving her three-year-old child unattended near moving traffic.
Mahrah Al Nahyan, 32—who is connected to the royal family by marriage and receives an 8,000-pound monthly allowance—was found unresponsive alongside an unconscious man on June 13. According to prosecutor Rio Pahlavanpour, concerned passersby intervened after noticing the barefoot toddler wandering near traffic with a scooter.
The Incident and Court Proceedings
Witnesses reported that Al Nahyan remained unresponsive for roughly 30 minutes after taking the Class A drug. Upon regaining consciousness, she reportedly dismissed those who helped her, asking, “This is not a slaughterhouse; why do you care so much? Why are you so worried?”
Although authorities did not find actual illegal drugs during a search, they did recover drug paraphernalia.
Appearing at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday, Al Nahyan pleaded guilty to a charge of child neglect.
Defense and Rehabilitation
Defending Al Nahyan, lawyer Stephen Vullo KC stated that she acknowledged making a “grave mistake.” He clarified that while she had not consumed drugs on the exact day she was found, she was suffering from severe exhaustion following a multi-day drug binge.
Vullo emphasized that his client has shown “significant remorse and resolve to overcome her addiction,” noting that she voluntarily admitted herself to the Priory clinic’s Woking branch in Surrey for rehabilitation. She plans to complete a three-month treatment program and transition to a day-patient routine in the Guildford area.
The judge sentenced Al Nahyan to a two-year community rehabilitation program and ordered her to pay a fine of 6,114 pounds.
