Adapting Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, the final chapter in the trilogy leaps 17 years into the future. Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) is now the powerful, yet deeply burdened, Emperor of the galaxy. However, his prophetic visions are failing him just as massive political conspiracies threathen to tear his empire apart.
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) are already calling it a “cinematic masterpiece,” noting that December 2026 is shaping up to host the “most epic movie of the decade.”
Here is everything revealed in the new trailer:
Key Plot Points & Character Returns
-
The Vulnerable Emperor: A shaved-headed Paul Atreides admits that his prescient abilities are weakening: “The future has a way of talking to me… I can’t see what’s ahead.”
-
A New Shape-Shifting Threat: Robert Pattinson joins the cast as the primary antagonist, Scytale, a Face Dancer who openly declares war on the throne: “We plan to strike the core of imperial power.”
-
The Return of Duncan Idaho: In a massive twist for movie-only fans, Jason Momoa returns as a ghola (a clone resurrected by the Tleilaxu) named Hayt, sent to Paul as a deeply suspicious “gift.”
-
Complicated Alliances: Chani (Zendaya) seeks a child, but her relationship with Paul is intensely strained by his political marriage to Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), whose role is greatly expanded. Meanwhile, Alia Atreides (Anya Taylor-Joy) has grown into a fiercely devoted, fanatical follower of her brother.
Directed by Villeneuve with a screenplay co-written by Brian K. Vaughan, Dune: Part Three is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on December 18, 2026.
