Maruti Suzuki India Limited has commissioned a 300 kW green hydrogen electrolyzer pilot plant at its manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana, marking a key step in its ongoing decarbonization strategy.

Carbon Footprint Reduction Goals: Speaking on the launch, Managing Director & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi stated that the company aims to aggressively slash its manufacturing carbon footprint from the current 6,15,000 tonnes down to 2,66,000 tonnes by FY 2030-31.

Harnessing Surplus Solar Energy: The green hydrogen facility is designed to optimize energy usage by routing surplus solar power generated during plant holidays—which would otherwise go unused—to produce green hydrogen. This hydrogen is then stored and integrated back into the manufacturing operations.

Broader Sustainability Roadmap: Aligning with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, the project complements Maruti Suzuki’s wider clean-energy investments, which include expanding solar capacity, setting up a 1-MWh battery energy storage system at Kharkhoda, and planning a 10-tonnes-per-day biogas plant slated for commissioning within FY 2026-27.
