Ahead of its highly anticipated facelift, Mahindra has revised the pricing for the Thar 3-door in India. Effective from April 6, most variants have seen a price jump, though the entry-level pricing remains untouched for now.
Key Price Adjustments
While the base AXT 2WD 1.5 Diesel MT remains at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), other popular variants have seen significant increases:
| Variant | Price Hike |
| LXT 4WD 2.2 Diesel AT | Rs 43,500 (Highest) |
| LXT 4WD 2.0 Petrol AT | Rs 41,500 |
| LXT 4WD 2.2 Diesel MT | Rs 39,500 |
| LXT 4WD 2.0 Petrol MT | Rs 37,500 |
| LXT 2WD 1.5 Diesel MT | Rs 30,500 |
This marks the second price revision for the Thar in just three months, following a Rs 20,000 increase back in January.
What’s Driving the Change?
Mahindra previously signaled a price increase of up to 2.5% across its SUV portfolio. This latest move comes as the company prepares the stage for the Thar Facelift, which has been spotted testing frequently.
Expected Changes in the Facelift:
-
Design: Inspiration from the Thar Roxx, specifically for the headlight and grille assembly.
-
Mechanicals: Potential tweaks to the chassis or suspension, though the core powertrain remains unchanged.
-
Powertrains: The existing 2.0-litre turbo petrol, 1.5-litre diesel, and 2.2-litre diesel options will continue to be offered.
Market Context
The Thar continues to dominate the lifestyle SUV segment with its versatile RWD and 4×4 configurations. However, with consistent price hikes and the upcoming facelift, buyers are watching closely to see how the value proposition shifts against newer competitors and evolving EV policies—such as the Delhi EV Policy 2.0, which may soon offer major tax waivers for electric and hybrid alternatives.
