Television actress Gautami Kapoor has broken her silence to fiercely defend her husband, actor Ram Kapoor, following severe backlash over his behavior on the reality show Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa.
The controversy erupted after co-contestant Shreya Kalra accused Ram of crossing personal boundaries inside the jail, specifically citing an incident where he kissed her on the cheek after a task win, and alleging he stood uncomfortably close to fellow inmate Shivangi Joshi.
Gautami Hits Back at “Toxic” Labels
Taking to social media with an emotional video message, Gautami urged viewers and trolls to stop passing harsh judgments based on heavily edited episodes.
“I had actually decided not to speak up regarding the show Lock Upp, but I think the last 2-3 days are kind of refraining me from being silent,” Gautami stated. “A lot of people are passing judgments and comments, saying that he’s a sleaze, he’s a tharki, he’s an old man who has some vested interests. So let me tell you guys that this is the way Ram is. He is a man who is all heart.”
Gautami questioned the sudden timing of the uproar, pointing out that the inmates have been living together for over four weeks. She implied the friction might stem from game strategy rather than actual discomfort:
“If he was being sleazy, then I’m sure the inmates would have called him out in the initial days of the show. The only reason I can see is that, yes, he did not support Shreya as the gang leader, which maybe he should have done because she’s supported him all the way.”
What Shreya Kalra Alleged
Shreya sparked the online storm during a recent episode while discussing boundaries with co-contestant Harshad Chopda. Recalling an incident during a task, Shreya claimed Ram stood too close to Shivangi, adding, “What sorry? That man comes and spits [when he speaks].”
Shreya further targeted Ram’s previous celebratory cheek-kiss, warning: “Maintain some boundaries. And this time, if he tries to kiss me, I’m gonna hold his mouth and be like, my father doesn’t kiss me this much… I should be ashamed of his seniority. I spit on these seniors.”
About Lock Upp Season 2
The high-drama reality show Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, currently hosted by Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, features 14 contestants locked in a simulated prison environment for six weeks. Ram Kapoor is competing alongside a star-studded lineup including Shivangi Joshi, Harshad Chopda, Dheeraj Dhoopar, and Akanksha Chaudhary.
Gautami concluded her defense by reminding fans of the intense mental toll the show takes on its contestants. “Please understand that all these things are trickling down to our family. Please be a little considerate of that,” she asked, reaffirming that she stands by Ram “today and always.”
