Former Ahmednagar MP Sujay Vikhe Patil has linked global geopolitical decisions by US President Donald Trump to local infrastructural delays and increased alcohol consumption in Maharashtra.
Addressing delays on the Ahilyanagar-Manmad Road project, Patil explained that global market disruptions have caused a severe shortage of bitumen—a critical byproduct of oil refining used as tar in road construction. He noted that the ongoing conflict involving Iran has impacted energy supplies, forcing contractors to transport tar from Delhi by road, which has escalated costs by two and a half times and caused administrative bottlenecks.
Critiquing Trump’s unpredictable policy decisions, Patil remarked, “In the morning he says stop, in the evening he drops bombs again… It is better for us not to get involved with that man.” He further suggested that the stress and confusion caused by these global developments have indirectly led to an increase in local alcohol consumption.
