In a recent interview, veteran actor and TV host Annu Kapoor made a candid revelation about contemporary Bollywood, admitting that he is unfamiliar with the work of several major box-office stars and would not recognize them in person.
“I Don’t Know What They Look Like”
Speaking with YouTuber Bhanu Pathak, Kapoor was asked about some of Hindi cinema’s leading names. Responding specifically to Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Sidharth Malhotra, he stated:
“Naa shakal se jaanta hu, naa personally jaanta hu; woh mere samne aajaye toh mujhe pata bhi nahi hai. Woh kaun hai mujhe maalum bhi nahi hai. Ranbir toh Rishi Kapoor ka ladka hai na… isiliye main jaanta hu… aur baaki… maine kabhi unka kaam kabhi dekha nahi hai, kaise bolte hai, kaise khade hote hai, mujhe kya pata ki kya baat karte hai.” (Translation: “I don’t know what they look like, nor do I know them personally; if they were to appear right in front of me, I wouldn’t even recognize them. I don’t even know who they are. Ranbir is Rishi Kapoor’s son, right… that’s why I know him… but as for the others… I’ve never seen their work, how they speak, how they stand. How would I know what they talk about?”)
Weighing In on Industry Criticism
During the conversation, Kapoor also addressed instances where veteran actors like Naseeruddin Shah have publicly criticized major superstars like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan. Questioning why established and immensely popular stars are frequently singled out for criticism, Kapoor noted that it is ultimately the public that grants artists their superstar status.
On the professional front, Annu Kapoor was most recently seen on the big screen in the theatrical release Uttar Da Puttar, which hit theatres in July 2026.
