In a candid conversation with Yuvaa, Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan opened up about a chilling encounter his family had with the underworld during the 1990s—a decade when organized crime frequently targeted the film industry.
The Staff’s Unwitting Bravery
Varun revealed that the situation was initially ignored because their household staff had been unknowingly intercepting the calls. Instead of being intimidated, the staff argued with the callers, not realizing they were dealing with the underworld.
-
Giving Out the Address: The staff members went as far as sharing the family’s full home address and challenging the callers to physical confrontations.
-
The Quote: “The staff even gave out our full address and told the person where to meet, ‘Come meet me in that garden; I’ll beat you there,’” Varun recalled.
The Escalation
The situation turned serious when a fellow actor called Varun’s father, filmmaker David Dhawan, to warn him that the threats had turned violent. The caller was now claiming he would arrive with guns and demonstrated precise knowledge of their home address and daily office timings.
Upon realizing the danger, the Dhawan family was forced to evacuate their home and stay at a secure location for 24 hours. Varun summarized the absurdity of the event, stating, “It is funny, but it is not funny actually.”
