Samsung Galaxy users in India can now complete UPI transactions more seamlessly through Samsung Wallet, replacing the traditional manual PIN entry with a simple biometric touch.
How Fingerprint Authentication Works for UPI
With the latest update, Samsung Wallet allows users to authorize eligible UPI payments of up to ₹10,000 using their Galaxy device’s built-in fingerprint sensor.
By verifying identity locally via on-device biometrics, the feature eliminates the need to type out a 4-digit or 6-digit UPI PIN for everyday purchases. According to Samsung, this addition offers two key benefits:
-
Enhanced Privacy in Public: Removing manual PIN entry prevents onlookers from catching sight of your password in crowded areas.
-
Fewer Transaction Failures: Biometric authorization helps minimize payment hiccups and errors caused by mistyped PINs.
The update serves as an alternative authentication layer built on top of Samsung Wallet’s existing UPI architecture, leaving the underlying banking network intact while streamlining the user experience.
More Than Just UPI: Samsung Wallet’s Ecosystem
Beyond streamlining peer-to-peer and merchant UPI transfers, Samsung Wallet serves as a comprehensive digital hub on Galaxy devices. It supports:
-
Contactless Payments: Tokenised credit and debit cards for tap-and-pay transactions.
-
Utility Management: Bill payments and administrative tasks.
-
Digital Documentation: Storing boarding passes, event tickets, government ID cards, and digital keys.
To safeguard sensitive financial details and personal data, Samsung anchors the wallet platform within its proprietary Knox security framework, utilizing hardware-level encryption and isolated secure environments accessible exclusively to the device owner.
