At the recent trailer launch for Netflix’s upcoming film Maa Behen, director Suresh Triveni sent Bollywood fans into a wave of nostalgia by teasing a potential onscreen reunion for one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic pairings: Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor.
Triveni, who has managed the rare feat of directing both superstars in separate projects this year, expressed that bringing them back together is at the top of his cinematic wishlist. “It’s been a dream for me,” the filmmaker shared. “The same year I worked on project one with Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit.”
When Triveni polled the audience at the event on whether they wanted to see the duo share screen space again, the crowd responded with a resounding “YES.” He then revealed that he and writer Pooja Tilani are already brainstorming concepts. “Mera toh mann hai (I really want to). In fact, Pooja and I were discussing we should try a comedy with them together.”
Madhuri Dixit, who stars in Triveni’s upcoming directorial, gladly joined in on the fun. Turning to the crowd, she asked, “Would you like to see us together again?” Following the enthusiastic cheers from the audience, she playfully challenged the director, saying, “Suresh, this is a new task for you.”
Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit dominated the box office in the late 1980s and 1990s, delivering a string of massive hits defined by their electric romantic chemistry, high-octane drama, and comedy timing. Their legendary collaborations include:
-
Tezaab (1988) – The film that featured the iconic track Ek Do Teen.
-
Ram Lakhan (1989) & Parinda (1989) – Solidifying their status as a gold-standard cinematic jodi.
-
Beta (1992) – Famous for the unforgettable blockbuster song Dhak Dhak Karne Laga.
-
Pukar (2000) & Total Dhamaal (2019) – Showcasing their enduring appeal across decades.
While fans cross their fingers for a comedy script to materialize, Suresh Triveni is focusing on his immediate release. Having previously directed Kapoor in Subedar, his next feature is the Netflix dark comedy Maa Behen. Starring Madhuri Dixit alongside Triptii Dimri, Dharna Durga, and Ravi Kishan, the movie tracks a chaotic mother-daughter trio tangled up in a bizarre scandal.
Maa Behen is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 4.
