Speaking at the NDTV World Summit 2026 during a session titled ‘The Making of a Modern Star’, Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon voiced strong concerns over the rapid, largely unregulated advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly regarding celebrity personality rights, deepfakes, and online image misuse.
Key Highlights of Kriti Sanon’s Address
-
AI as a Dangerous Tool: While acknowledging that technological tools can drive innovation, Sanon cautioned that AI’s sharp capabilities pose significant risks. “AI scares me. I think it scares a lot of people… The thing is, it is a very sharp tool, and the sharper the tool, the more dangerous it can be,” she remarked.
-
Blurring Lines Between Real and Fake: Highlighting the alarming evolution of generative media, the actor pointed out that distinguishing authentic photographs from hyper-realistic AI-generated imagery has become increasingly difficult.
-
Need for Legal Frameworks: Sanon stressed that regulatory and legal systems are failing to keep pace with technological milestones, leaving public figures and ordinary citizens vulnerable to digital exploitation. “When it comes to personal rights, I feel it is very scary… I feel we are not really prepared for what AI can become, and there need to be certain laws in place,” she said.
-
Gaps in Social Media Moderation: Highlighting practical hurdles on digital platforms, Sanon pointed out that major networks still lack intuitive reporting mechanisms for synthetic media. Citing Instagram as an example, she noted the absence of a direct option to flag and remove unauthorized AI-generated likenesses, underscoring the lag between tech platforms and accountability.
