Porsche has unveiled the Mission S, a striking new concept that previews the brand’s next mid-engined supercar and establishes a design blueprint for future performance models. Positioned directly above the iconic 911, Porsche intends for this platform to become a permanent, recurring part of its vehicle lineup rather than a limited-run hypercar.
Design & Heritage Cues
The exterior combines modern aerodynamic functionality with profound nods to Porsche’s historic racing and road cars:
-
Front & Side Profile: Features a low-slung nose, rounded headlights, slim LED daytime running lights, and raised ‘torpedo’ fenders designed to help drivers judge wheel placement. A large air intake is positioned at the front of the roof.
-
Rear Layout: Showcases narrow split tail lights, an active rear wing that retracts when not needed, a large diffuser, and a rear cooling fan above the engine bay inspired by the legendary Porsche 917.
-
Historical Influences: The roofline borrows cues from the 959, the rear bodywork echoes the 911 GT1, and the distinctive wheels feature a telephone-dial design reminiscent of the 928.
Minimalist, Driver-Focused Cabin
Drawing interior inspiration from classic models like the 550 Spyder and 356, the cabin emphasizes a clean, driver-centric layout:
-
Instrumentation: Features five round instruments behind the steering wheel—anchored by an analogue rev counter—accompanied by configurable digital displays.
-
Controls: Retains physical buttons, switches, push-pull controls, and a redesigned Sport Chrono element blending analogue and digital readouts.
-
Infotainment Shift: Eschewing a traditional fixed central touchscreen or passenger display, Porsche has integrated a retractable, MagSafe-compatible smartphone holder allowing the user’s phone to handle navigation and media. The My Porsche app also enables custom digital designs for the instrument cluster.
