Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that trial runs for India’s indigenous high-speed bullet train will begin in May or June 2027 on a nearing-completion stretch of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor. Commercial operations will open to commuters two to four months after testing concludes, with travel between Vadodara and Mumbai expected to take just 90 minutes.

Current Progress: The first body frame has been completed and sent for squeeze testing. The Surat-Vapi stretch is on track for completion by December 2026.

Phased Rollout: The service will launch gradually, starting with the Surat-Bilimora section, followed sequentially by Vapi-Surat, Vapi-Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad-Thane, and finally the complete Ahmedabad-Mumbai run.

Proposed Future Corridors: Seven additional high-speed rail routes have been proposed nationwide, including Delhi-Varanasi, Mumbai-Pune, Bengaluru-Chennai, and Bengaluru-Hyderabad.
