KTM has officially revealed a heavily updated version of the 790 Duke (affectionately nicknamed “The Scalpel”) for the 2027 model year. While keeping its signature parallel-twin engine core, KTM has focused on sharper aesthetics, significant chassis/hardware improvements, and refined ergonomics.
The middleweight naked streetfighter is scheduled to go on sale in international markets starting at the end of July 2026.
Key Upgrades & Specifications
1. Hardware & Braking Overhaul
-
New WP Radial Brakes: KTM has completely replaced the previous J.Juan braking components with a brand-new, WP-developed radial setup, aimed at delivering much sharper lever feedback and stronger stopping power.
-
Adjustable WP APEX Suspension: The bike retains its premium 43 mm WP APEX upside-down front forks and rear monoshock but introduces an easier five-click adjustment system for tuning compression, preload, and rebound damping.
-
Premium Add-ons: A factory-fitted WP steering damper now comes standard to handle front-end stability, and the bike rides on premium Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres out of the box.
2. Ergonomics, Chassis, & Weight Reduction
-
2 kg Weight Cut: Despite looking visually bulkier and more muscular, clever component engineering has allowed KTM to shed 2 kg of weight compared to the previous iteration.
-
Revised Dynamics: To maximize front-end feedback and cornering confidence, the 2027 model features a new subframe, revised triple clamps, and a reshaped fuel tank.
-
Rider Geometry: The ergonomics are tuned for a more natural riding posture via a new handlebar with a more open angle alongside repositioned footpegs for both the rider and the pillion.
3. Styling & Aesthetics
-
Aggressive Look: The 790 Duke now fully aligns with the latest hyper-aggressive design language seen on the larger 990 and 1390 Super Duke models. It features a completely redesigned LED headlamp cluster, sharper tank shrouds, and a more prominent front cowl.
4. Engine & Performance
-
The LC8c Mill: The bike continues to rely on the proven 799cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which is now Euro 5+ emissions compliant.
-
Output: It generates 105 hp of power and 87 Nm of torque, managed via a 6-speed gearbox with a slip-and-assist clutch and a revised exhaust system. (A restricted 95 hp version will also navigate specific licensing markets globally).
Key Feature Shift
Following extensive customer feedback, KTM has confirmed it is completely discontinuing its controversial “Demo Mode” software feature on this and future models, meaning electronic features will no longer be temporarily locked behind a software paywall after initial delivery.
