A 30-year-old serial offender has been arrested by the North Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell for weaponizing artificial intelligence to run a complex sexual extortion racket. Operating under the guise of an employment recruiter, the suspect targeted young women, manipulated their likenesses into explicit deepfakes, and blackmailed them for continuous cash payouts.
Despite having two prior arrests for identical crimes, the suspect continued to run the racket until a 19-year-old victim’s refusal to expand his target network finally brought his operations down.
The Modus Operandi: Anatomy of an AI Extortion Trap
The suspect, identified as Sourav—a resident of Bhalaswa Dairy and a school dropout working for a private finance company—engineered a highly deceptive pipeline to exploit his victims:
Escalation and The Breaking Point
The case that cracked the operation open began when a 19-year-old student from Malkaganj lodged a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
-
Initial Extortion: The victim initially received her morphed photo on WhatsApp alongside a directive to migrate the conversation to Snapchat. Fearing public humiliation, her family paid ₹30,000 via a QR code.
-
The Second Wave: After lying low, the suspect re-established contact in February 2026, forcing a secondary payment of ₹10,000 through a local cyber cafe.
-
The Network Expansion Demand: The extortion attempt spiraled when the suspect refused to drop the blackmail unless the victim handed over the personal contact numbers of her female friends. Her refusal to comply, combined with ongoing digital threats, led her straight to the police.
Digital Trailing and Capture
Because the suspect utilized disposable accounts and digital masking, the North Delhi Cyber Cell had to trace the infrastructure behind the profiles.
Investigators analyzed network logs, subscriber data, and IP routing tables tied to the QR payment destinations. The digital breadcrumbs pointed straight to a mail account operated by Sourav out of Bhalaswa Dairy, where a raid was carried out.
The Relapse Pattern
What alarms cyber safety experts most about this arrest is the systemic failure of past rehabilitation efforts. Sourav is a verified repeat offender with an established criminal pattern:
| Year | Jurisdiction / Police Station | Registered Offense Tyology |
| 2022 | Bharat Nagar Police Station | Extortion, Cyber Stalking, Sexual Harassment |
| 2023 | Cyber Shahdara Police Station | Digital Intimidation, Morphing, Extortion |
| 2026 | North Delhi Cyber Cell (Current) | AI Deepfake Extortion, Cyber Extortion, BNS Violations |
Police have seized his primary smartphone, active SIM card, and the home Wi-Fi router used to host his servers. He is currently facing a fresh round of criminal charges under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act.
