Bengaluru’s notorious traffic on the Bannerghatta Road and MG Road stretch is set for a massive relief as the 21.3 km Pink Line (Reach 6) prepares for its debut. According to the latest update from BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) on March 27, 2026, the line will be operational in phases starting this summer.
1. Launch Timeline: Two-Phase Rollout
The Pink Line is unique because it features both a high-tech elevated section and one of the city’s longest underground tunnels.
-
Phase 1 (Elevated): May 2026. The 7.53 km stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere is expected to open first.
-
Phase 2 (Underground & Full Corridor): December 2026. The entire 21.3 km corridor, including the 13.8 km tunnel between Dairy Circle and Nagawara, will be fully operational.
2. Route & Station Guide
The Pink Line will feature 18 stations, connecting the South (Bannerghatta Road) to the North (Nagawara).
| Section | Key Stations |
| Elevated | Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIM-Bangalore, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital, Tavarekere. |
| Underground | Dairy Circle, Lakkasandra, Langford Town, National Military School, MG Road, Shivajinagar, Cantonment, Pottery Town, Tannery Road, Venkateshpura, Kadugundanahalli, Nagawara. |
3. Major Interchanges (The Connectivity Hubs)
The Pink Line is designed to integrate seamlessly with the rest of the Namma Metro grid:
-
MG Road: Interchange with the Purple Line (Challaghatta–Kadugodi).
-
Jayadeva Hospital: A massive multi-level interchange with the Yellow Line (R.V. Road–Bommasandra).
-
Nagawara: Future interchange with the Blue Line (Airport Metro).
4. Frequency and Timings
To match the high demand of the IT and business corridors it serves, the Pink Line will follow the standard Namma Metro schedule:
-
Operating Hours: 5:30 AM to 11:00 PM.
-
Peak Hours: Trains every 5–7 minutes.
-
Off-Peak Hours: Trains every 8–12 minutes.
5. Why the Pink Line Matters
-
Commute Time: Traveling from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, which currently takes 1.5 to 2 hours by road during peak hours, will be reduced to just 45–50 minutes.
-
Last-Mile Connectivity: The line provides direct access to major landmarks like IIM-B, Fortis/Apollo Hospitals, and the Cantonment Railway Station.
-
Safety Features: BMRCL has implemented advanced Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling and Platform Screen Doors (PSDs) for the underground sections.
