It takes immense emotional maturity to handle the end of a long-term relationship with grace, and Mahhi Vij and Jay Bhanushali are setting an incredible example.
After 16 years together (and 14 years of marriage), the couple officially announced their separation in January 2026. Despite the split, Mahhi recently opened up about how their bond has transitioned into a deep, supportive friendship, completely free of animosity.
Evolving Into “Best Friends”
Appearing on a promo for the Sony LIV reality show Tum Ho Naa – Ghar Ki Superstar, hosted by Rajeev Khandelwal, Mahhi spoke candidate about her life after the divorce. When asked how she coped when things didn’t go as planned, Mahhi highlighted that her equation with Jay remains as solid as family:
“Jay is my best friend right now, and he is my family. Mere papa bhi ghar jaate hain Jay ke saath chai peete hain, woh bhi aata hai. (Even my father visits him and has tea with Jay, and Jay also comes over). We share a very good relationship, and I am glad there is no bitterness between us.”
The Power of Silent Support
Mahhi also credited her father’s unspoken strength for getting her through the painful transition period. Instead of bombarding her with societal expectations or asking heavy questions, he simply provided a safe space:

Quiet Presence: “When all this was happening… you feel like you don’t want to be questioned, you just want someone to sit quietly beside you, and that’s exactly what he did,” Mahhi shared.
A Journey Built on Shared History
Jay and Mahhi tied the knot in 2010. Over the years, they built a beautiful, busy household, welcoming foster children Khushi and Rajveer in 2017, and their biological daughter, Tara, in 2019.
When they announced their legal separation earlier this year, they made a mutual promise that their romantic split would never compromise their parenting. By maintaining an active friendship and a shared commitment to their three kids, they are proving that families can evolve and change shape without losing their love and respect for one another.
