Three decades after walking away from the silver screen at the peak of her career, veteran Bollywood actress Meenakshi Seshadri has officially announced her return to Mumbai. In a heartfelt video message shared on Instagram, the 62-year-old star reached out to her fans and the film industry, seeking meaningful work as she kicks off her second innings in cinema.
Her appeal mirrors the iconic 2017 social media post by Neena Gupta, who famously asked for work on Instagram at age 62, subsequently landing the smash-hit Badhaai Ho and reinventing her career. Seshadri is now looking for a similar career-defining breakthrough.
Back to Her ‘Karmabhoomi’
The actress, celebrated for her powerhouse performances in definitive late ’80s and ’90s hits like Damini, Hero, Ghayal, and Shahenshah, stepped away from the industry in 1995. She relocated to the United States to raise a family with her husband, investment banker Harish Mysore.
Now, she has officially packed her bags and returned to India.
“After 30 long years, I have relocated to my karmabhoomi, Mumbai, India and have stepped once again into the entertainment industry with hope, passion and positivity,” Seshadri announced in her video.
Open to Films, OTT, and Supporting Roles
Seshadri, who is also a highly accomplished classical dancer trained in Bharatanatyam and Odissi, emphasized that she is navigating this comeback independently without any talent agency. She expressed an openness to diverse formats and characters, provided they offer artistic depth.

On the types of roles she wants: “I’m really looking forward to meaningful opportunities, whether it’s a lead role, supporting character or even a short show. And it doesn’t matter as long as it’s an impactful performance. It could be films or OTT shows.”

On managing expectations: “Many offers did come my way, but some weren’t exciting enough and some simply didn’t materialise… I am not here to prove any point. I’m just here with the love, encouragement of my family. I’m simply doing what truly makes me happy.”
A Message from Boston
Though she has permanently shifted her base back to India, Seshadri posted the update while currently vacationing in the United States. In her post’s caption, she revealed she is in Boston to celebrate her son’s graduation from Harvard University.
Signing off with hope, she asked her dedicated fanbase to spread the word, writing: “I’m seeking the good wishes and blessings of all you wonderful fans who knows kisiki dua se mujhe mera accha mauka mile (who knows, through someone’s prayers I might get my next great opportunity).”
