In a bold display of engineering DNA, Anand Mahindra has unveiled the Mahindra ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle)—a radical, mission-focused evolution of the Thar Roxx designed specifically for the Indian Armed Forces. Showcased by Mahindra Defence at the Raksha Triveni Sangam, the vehicle is a collaboration with Bengaluru-based firm Prad 4×4.
Stripped of all civilian “ornamentation,” the ATV is built with a “no-excess” philosophy where every component serves a tactical purpose.
Tactical Specs & Hardware
The ATV is built to survive in environments ranging from high-altitude Himalayan sectors to dense jungles.
| Feature | Tactical Specification |
| Engine | 2.2L mHawk Diesel |
| Power/Torque | 172 HP / 400 Nm |
| Chassis | Stripped-down Thar Roxx 4×4 with reinforced roll cage |
| Deployment | Airdrop Ready (certified for parachute/helicopter insertion) |
| Protection | Full underbody shielding and windshield protector |
| Combat Gear | Integrated gun mount for medium machine guns |
| Recovery | Front-mounted heavy-duty winch |
Key Design Overhauls
Unlike the standard Thar Roxx, the ATV prioritizes functionality and survivability over comfort:
-
Open Body Architecture: The metal roof and doors have been replaced with a high-strength roll cage and tubular half-doors for quick ingress and egress.
-
Tandem Tyre Configuration: Equipped with a dual spare wheel carrier at the rear to ensure mobility even after sustaining multiple tyre hits.
-
Operational Endurance: Integrated jerrycan holders for extra fuel and water storage during long-range reconnaissance.
-
Visual Signature: Features blackout lights and heavy-duty metal bumpers with recovery shackles on both ends.
“Stripped to its Essentials”
Sharing the images on X, Anand Mahindra highlighted that this machine represents the core of the brand:
“This is what our DNA looks like… stripped to its essentials. It’s a window into what sits at the heart of every Mahindra vehicle: resilience, adaptability, and the will to go anywhere.”
While there is significant buzz among off-road enthusiasts for a road-legal version, the Mahindra ATV remains a defence-only platform for now, joining the ranks of other indigenous Mahindra military vehicles like the Armado and Marksman.
