The ongoing fallout from Ranveer Singh’s abrupt exit from Don 3 has reignited intense debate online. After the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) officially issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor, internet users rushed back to YouTube to flood the comments section of the film’s 2023 title-reveal teaser.
With Ranveer’s recent spy-thriller duology (Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge) shattering box-office records globally, fans are highly divided, with many claiming a stylized Don 3 would now feel minor compared to his scale as an action star.
The Internet Reacts: Divided Loyalties
Comments on the teaser have shifted from comparing Ranveer to Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan to reflecting on his massive box-office standing and the controversy itself.
-
The Critics: Pointing to the massive, raw scale of his 2025–2026 Dhurandhar franchise, one user remarked, “Shayad Dhurandhar nahi karta toh yeh movie karni padti ya Shaktimaan” (If he hadn’t done Dhurandhar, he would have had to do this movie or Shaktimaan), while another wrote, “Dhurandhar ke baad yeh Chhota Bheem lagegi” (After Dhurandhar, this will look like Chhota Bheem). Others urged the team to scrap the film altogether: “Please bandh kar do ab iss movie ko…” (Please shut down this movie now. After so much controversy, I don’t think anyone will watch it).
-
The Supporters: Many defended the actor, writing, “Yaar Ranveer Singh ke saath galat hua yaar” (What happened with Ranveer is wrong) and praising his versatility, with some stating they were glad he moved away from the project.
FWICE Action: Non-Cooperation, Not a Absolute Ban
Clarifying the initial reports of an industry “ban,” FWICE Chief Advisor Ashoke Pandit explained that the trade union body has issued a temporary non-cooperation directive to its 30 affiliated craft unions.
“It’s not a ban. See, we are not the court; we can’t ban people. Non-cooperation means all our members who belong to 30 crafts will not work with him… till the time this issue is not sorted out.”
The directive was initiated after director-producer Farhan Akhtar filed a formal complaint on April 11. Farhan alleged that Ranveer walked away from Don 3 just three weeks before the production unit was scheduled to fly out, causing immense logistical disruption and leaving ₹45 crore in pre-production costs already spent and audited. FWICE claims they issued three notices to Ranveer but received no response before moving forward with the order.
Official Stances: Restraint vs. Resolution
-
Ranveer Singh’s Team: A spokesperson issued a statement emphasizing that the actor holds the highest regard for the film fraternity. They added that his choice to remain silent and not respond to public speculation was a “conscious decision” aimed at handling professional matters with dignity and maturity.
-
The Path Forward: Despite the escalation, insiders report that all major stakeholders—including Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani (Excel Entertainment), Ranveer Singh, and the film bodies—are open to a round-table meeting. The ultimate goal remains to amicably resolve the financial gridlock, lift the non-cooperation directive, and prevent any further losses to the industry.
