SANAND, GUJARAT — In a major boost to India’s high-tech manufacturing ambitions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kaynes Technology’s state-of-the-art semiconductor facility today. Coming exactly one month after the opening of the Micron Technology plant, the Prime Minister hailed the rapid. expansion of the nation’s “silicon ecosystem” as a bridge between Sanand and Silicon Valley.
A Milestone for “Make in India”
The new facility, built with an investment of ₹3,300 crore, marks a transition from theoretical policy to tangible industrial output. Unlike previous initiatives, the Prime Minister noted that the products from this plant are already booked for export, making it commercially operational from its very first day.
-
Production Power: The plant has a staggering capacity of 6.33 million units per day.
-
Global Reach: Modules manufactured here are slated for American companies, intended to power devices across the globe.
-
Strategic Growth: This is the second major inauguration in Sanand in 30 days, following the February 28 opening of Micron’s assembly and packaging facility.
The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) 2.0
PM Modi emphasized that the drive for self-reliance in chips was born out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, 10 projects worth ₹1.6 lakh crore are underway across six Indian states.
“This is not a coincidence. This is proof of the pace at which India’s semiconductor ecosystem is growing,” the Prime Minister stated, referring to the back-to-back monthly inaugurations.
Key Future Projections:
| Metric | Current Status | 2030 Projection |
| Market Value | ~$50 Billion (₹4.5 lakh cr) | >$100 Billion |
| Trained Professionals | Target: 85,000 | On track to surpass |
| Design Innovation | 55+ Chips developed | Expanding via 400+ Universities |
Global Alliances and Resource Security

To support this high-tech surge, the government is focusing on the “back-end” of the supply chain:
-
National Critical Minerals Mission: A ₹1,500 crore recycling scheme to ensure raw material availability.
-
Rare Earth Corridor: A new network connecting Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala to integrate mining and refining.
