In a chilling daylight attack in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur, a senior advocate was gunned down on Saturday morning. The brazen assault, captured on CCTV, was marked by a moment of high-tension drama when the killers’ getaway vehicle failed to start immediately after the murder.
The victim, 45-year-old Rajiv Singh, was on his routine morning walk when two men on a motorcycle intercepted him. The footage shows one of the attackers dismounting and firing a crude pistol at Singh, killing him instantly.
A Desperate Escape
The cold-blooded execution was followed by a frantic attempt to flee. As the shooter climbed back onto the bike, the driver began desperately kicking the starter pedal. For several tense minutes, the motorcycle refused to roar to life, leaving the assassins stranded at the scene of the crime.
-
The Stand-off: While the driver struggled with the bike, local witnesses began to approach the scene.
-
The Deterrent: The shooter kept the crowd at bay by brandishing his firearm and pointing it at anyone who drew too close.
-
The Flight: Eventually, the engine turned over, and the duo sped away before authorities could arrive.
A Predicted Tragedy
Tragically, this was not an unforeseen threat. Rajiv Singh—a former village head and practicing lawyer—had recently filed a formal application with the police expressing grave concerns for his life. This was not his first brush with violence; he had survived two previous assassination attempts.
Following the shooting, a large crowd of angry residents and colleagues gathered at the spot, sparking concerns over the safety of legal professionals in the region. Local police are currently using the CCTV footage to identify the suspects and have launched a massive manhunt.
