Following the successful debut of the Desmo450 MX last year, Ducati is officially expanding its off-road racing presence into the highly competitive MX2 category with the global unveiling of the all-new Ducati Desmo250 MX.
This new machine brings Borgo Panigale’s legendary high-revving racetrack engineering to a lightweight, nimble quarter-liter chassis.
The bike is packed with advanced tech that sets it apart from traditional dirt bikes. Here are the five key highlights you need to know about the new Desmo250 MX.
1. High-Revving Desmodromic Engine
At the absolute heart of the Desmo250 MX is a newly developed 249cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 44.5 hp at 12,500 rpm and 28.3 Nm of torque at 8,800 rpm.
True to Ducati’s performance DNA, the engine utilizes the brand’s signature desmodromic valve system, which mechanically closes the valves rather than relying on conventional springs. This architecture allows the bike to rev safely all the way up to a class-leading 15,000 rpm. Power is delivered via a five-speed gearbox mated to a factory-fitted upshift quickshifter for lightning-fast gear changes on the track.
2. Aggressive, Purpose-Built Design
The Desmo250 MX inherits its aggressive visual styling and tight packaging from its bigger sibling, the Desmo450 MX. The bodywork is incredibly sharp and minimalistic:
-
Ultra-Slim Profile: A compact fuel tank and narrow side panels allow riders to move freely and shift weight dynamically.
-
Ergonomic Layout: Tailored specifically for intense off-road tracks to offer maximum control during hard cornering and standing positions.
3. Race-Spec Chassis and Hardware
To keep the motorcycle incredibly light while maintaining structural rigidity under heavy jumps, Ducati has equipped the bike with premium racing hardware.
| Component | Specification |
| Frame | Lightweight aluminum perimeter frame with an aluminum swingarm |
| Front Suspension | Fully adjustable Showa inverted forks (tuned specifically for 250cc geometry) |
| Rear Suspension | Fully adjustable Showa rear monoshock |
| Braking System | Brembo calipers paired with a 260 mm Galfer front disc and a 240 mm rear disc |
| Tyres / Dry Weight | Pirelli Scorpion MX32 off-road tyres / 103 kg claimed dry weight |
4. Class-Leading Electronics Suite
Ducati has brought tarmac-level electronic sophistication to the dirt. The Desmo250 MX features a comprehensive electronics package that riders can fully customize via the Ducati X-Link smartphone app:
-
Power Delivery: 2 selectable engine maps.
-
Slip Control: 3 levels of a patented traction control system that monitors actual rear-wheel slip.
-
Holeshot Assist: 3 levels of launch control.
-
Deceleration Tuning: 2 levels of adjustable engine braking.
5. Smart Predictive Maintenance System
To take the guesswork out of race bike upkeep, Ducati has integrated a predictive maintenance system driven by a proprietary algorithm. Rather than tracking hours blindly, the system analyzes actual engine stress based on real-time riding conditions to dictate exact service intervals.
Maintenance Windows:
While standard valve clearance inspections are recommended every 45 hours of riding, major component overhauls adapt dynamically depending on how hard the bike is being pushed.
Global Launch Timeline
The Ducati Desmo250 MX will officially hit selected European showrooms in July 2026, followed by its North American debut in August 2026. While Ducati India has not yet confirmed an official release date for the domestic market, off-road enthusiasts are highly anticipating its arrival via the brand’s premium tier-one dealership network.
