Scheduled commercial operations officially commenced at the Adani Mundra Airport on Tuesday, marked by the arrival of regional carrier Star Air’s inaugural flight from Goa. Fully owned and operated by the Adani Group, this facility becomes the third operational airport in the Kutch region, alongside existing hubs at Kandla and Bhuj.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings, inaugurated the new airport and its 1,900-meter runway. He noted that the facility will dramatically boost connectivity from Mundra—the group’s ‘karmabhoomi’ (place of work)—to the rest of India, unlocking fresh economic potential for the area.
Key Details & Flight Network
-
Initial Connectivity: The airport is launching with a lean schedule connecting Goa, Mumbai, Hindon, and Surat, with services to Ahmedabad expected to start soon.
-
Future Expansion: Routes to Belagavi, Bengaluru, Kolhapur, and Nanded are also on the horizon.
-
Express Trade Corridor: Star Air is launching a total of eight new services, creating a fast-travel corridor designed to slash travel times for trade, commerce, logistics, and tourism.
Strategic Focus on Regional Growth
The air routes have been specifically planned to fuel the growth of Mundra Port (India’s largest private port) and the multi-product Mundra Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
When asked about expanding the airport to accommodate larger, narrow-body (single-aisle) commercial aircraft, Jeet Adani indicated that the focus will remain strictly on regional flights for now.
“The supply chain is extremely tight and most of the narrow-bodies that airlines already have are near full. We are letting the economics work for themselves, starting with Star Air. As demand grows, we believe others will follow.”
