Citroen has officially teased a midlife refresh for its budget-friendly electric hatchback in India. Moving in line with the brand’s updated naming system, the revised model drops its old badging to adopt the ‘X’ suffix, making its upcoming debut as the Citroen eC3 X.
The refresh brings a host of much-needed cosmetic updates and premium cabin features to help the electric vehicle (EV) better hold its ground against intensifying market competition.
Rugged Looks and Sharper Styling
The teaser hints at major exterior upgrades designed to give the hatchback a bolder, more mature presence on the road.
Exterior Refresh Highlights:
-
Rugged Front Fascia: A completely redesigned front bumper incorporating a silver skid plate-like element for a more SUV-inspired look.
-
Premium Lighting: New LED daytime running lamps (DRLs) and proper LED fog lamps, fixing a major complaint from the older model’s halogen setup.
-
Side Upgrades: Turn indicators move off the body panel and integrate directly into the outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), complemented by a fresh set of dual-tone alloy wheels.
A Way More Comfortable Cabin
Inside, the eC3 X receives a massive injection of convenience features aimed at elevating the passenger experience. While the popular 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remains, the surrounding environment feels vastly upgraded.
Premium Additions:
-
Upgraded Materials: “Metropolitan” leatherette upholstery wrapping both the steering wheel and parts of the dashboard.
-
Creature Comforts: Automatic climate control, LED ambient lighting, fast USB Type-C charging ports, and an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror (IRVM).
-
Driver Aids: Cruise control paired with a speed limiter, and an optional 360-degree camera system to simplify tight parking maneuvers.
Safety and Mechanical Specs
Citroen is dramatically stepping up its safety game with the eC3 X, equipping the refreshed EV with six airbags as standard. The safety suite also packs an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), ABS with EBD, hill-hold assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a standard engine immobilizer.
Underneath the styling updates, the mechanical core stays reliable and focused on urban efficiency:
| Component | Specification |
| Battery Capacity | 29.2 kWh |
| Claimed Range | ~320 km per charge |
| Power Output | 57 PS |
| Torque | 143 Nm |
| Top Speed | 107 km/h |
The Market Outlook: The outgoing eC3 was priced between Rs 12.9 lakh and Rs 13.26 lakh (ex-showroom). Because direct rivals like the Tata Punch EV offer significantly more premium features at highly aggressive price points, nailing the final pricing strategy for this feature-loaded eC3 X will be absolutely crucial for Citroen.
