Aprilia India has quietly overhauled its scooter portfolio, marking the end of an era for its maxi-scooter styling while introducing a more powerful flagship for its sport-scooter range. Without a formal announcement, Piaggio India has phased out the SR 160, SXR 125, and SXR 160, leaving the brand with a streamlined, performance-oriented catalog.
The Evolution: Out with the 160, In with the 175
The long-standing SR 160 has officially passed the torch to the new Aprilia SR 175. This transition isn’t just a name change; it brings a significant mechanical and technological boost to the segment.
-
Power & Performance: The new 174.7cc air-cooled engine delivers 12.9 hp and 14.14 Nm of torque. This is a notable step up from the outgoing 160’s 11.27 hp and 13.44 Nm, promising a punchier, more refined experience for urban riders.
-
Modern Tech: In a major cockpit upgrade, the SR 175 inherits the full-color TFT display seen on the Aprilia 457 series.
-
Familiar Aesthetics: While the internals and tech are new, the SR 175 retains the aggressive LED lighting and iconic sharp styling that defined the SR bloodline.
The End of the Road for the SXR Maxi-Scooters
In a move that may disappoint fans of the “maxi” aesthetic, both the SXR 125 and SXR 160 have been axed with no direct successors in sight.
Known for their upright riding position, 12-inch wheels, and bulky bodywork, the SXR range offered a touring-lite experience. However, since they shared engines with the SR line without offering distinct mechanical advantages, the brand has decided to consolidate its resources into the more popular SR platform.
The New Aprilia Hierarchy
With the SXR range gone, Aprilia’s Indian scooter presence now focuses exclusively on its high-wheeled, sporty “SR” DNA.
| Model | Approximate Price (Ex-Showroom) | Core Appeal |
| SR 125 | ₹1.14 Lakh | Entry-level sport performance |
| SR 175 | ₹1.21 Lakh | High-tech features & class-leading power |
Note for Buyers: Those specifically looking for the maxi-scooter silhouette will now have to pivot toward the SR 175 or explore competitors, as Aprilia has pivoted its focus back to the “Race Squad” heritage that first made the brand famous in India.
