On the eve of its annual I/O developer conference, Google has unveiled a transformative vision for its mobile operating system. The core of this modernization is the Gemini Intelligence layer, a shift that evolves Gemini from a simple conversational chatbot into a proactive, contextual “agent” woven into the very fabric of Android.
The goal is to move beyond AI as a tool you ask for help, to one that anticipates your needs and automates mundane tasks.
Gemini Intelligence: The New Android Core
Rather than living in a standalone app, Gemini Intelligence will now act as an active layer across third-party apps, bringing “intent-based” automation to your daily routine.
-
Contextual Auto-fill: Gemini will pull relevant information (like passport details or addresses) from your Google Drive or Photos to intelligently fill out complex web forms.
-
Keyboard “Rambler”: A new feature for Gboard that converts spoken, filler-heavy sentences into polished, professional messages or structured lists.
-
Task Automation: The system can proactively suggest and execute tasks, such as automatically booking tickets for an event you just discovered in a social media app.
-
Chrome “Auto-browse”: Launching in late June 2026, this feature will help with appointment booking, party planning, and tracking down out-of-stock items directly within the browser.
Rollout and Device Compatibility
The features will roll out in waves, starting with the current crop of flagship devices.
| Device Series | Status |
| Pixel 10 / Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra | Initial Wave (Late Q2 2026) |
| Xiaomi 17 Ultra / Vivo X300 Series | Initial Wave (Late Q2 2026) |
| Mid-range / Older Devices | Rolling out throughout late 2026 |
Subscription Tiers and Usage Limits
Google confirmed that while base features will be free, heavy users will eventually hit “usage limits” that require a paid plan. In India, the current AI plans are:
-
AI Plus: ₹399/month
-
AI Pro: ₹1,950/month
-
AI Ultra: ₹24,500/month
Digital Wellbeing: “Pause Points”
To combat “autopilot” app usage, Google is introducing Pause Points. When you attempt to open a “distracting” app (like social media), Android will present a prompt screen suggesting breathing exercises or a look at your photo gallery, forcing a moment of reflection before you proceed.
The “Warm Handshake” with Apple
Google is doubling down on cross-platform compatibility:
-
Quick Share & AirDrop: Google is working to ensure all new Android phones (like the S26 Ultra) can wirelessly share files directly with iPhones using the AirDrop standard.
-
Gemini-Powered Siri: Following the Apple-Google partnership earlier this year, a conversational Siri powered by Gemini models is expected to debut later in 2026.
Privacy & Security
The new intelligence layer uses a hybrid approach:
-
On-Device Processing: For immediate, sensitive tasks to ensure data never leaves the phone.
-
Private AI Compute: A specialized cloud space introduced in late 2025 that allows Gemini to process complex data without “remembering” or storing it.
-
Rambler Voice Data: Processed in the cloud for accuracy but returned to the device without being stored on Google’s servers.
