The legendary partnership of Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan is set to expand even further. Following a string of recent projects, the duo has officially signed on for two new films produced by Ramesh Taurani of Tips Films.
New Projects on the Horizon
According to sources close to the development, the two films will lean into the duo’s signature strengths:
-
Untitled Comedy: Scheduled to go on floors in January 2027. This film marks a return to the classic slapstick and situational humor that defined their early collaborations.
-
Bhoot Police 2: In a surprising twist, Akshay Kumar will lead the sequel to the 2021 horror-comedy. Priyadarshan takes over the directorial reins from Pavan Kirpalani. The production is currently scouting for a second male lead to star alongside Akshay.
Note: Ramesh Taurani is the sole returning link from the original Bhoot Police, which featured Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor.
A Packed Slate for 2026-2027
The announcement adds to an already busy schedule for the pair. Having recently released Bhoot Bangla, they are currently involved in:
-
Haiwaan (In progress)
-
Hera Pheri 3 (Status currently unclear)

Personal Anecdote: The “Vidya Balan” Fear
During a recent HT City interaction, Akshay shared a humorous story about the impact of their past work. He revealed that his son was so terrified by Vidya Balan’s performance in Bhool Bhulaiyaa that he refused to look at her or speak to her for six years, even when she visited their home. “I had to nurture and tell him… ‘This is Vidya Balan, she is very nice,’” Akshay joked, noting that his son was genuinely scarred by the iconic character of Manjulika.
