In a major revelation for fans of Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming mythological epic, Yash (who plays Ravana) has confirmed that he and Ranbir Kapoor (who plays Lord Rama) do not share any screen space in Ramayana: Part 1.
During a recent interview with Fandango, Yash explained that the narrative structure of the first installment keeps the two legendary figures in their respective kingdoms. “Interestingly, we both have never come together on screen in this film,” Yash stated. “In the first part, as Ravana, I have my own kingdom, and Rama has his own kingdom.“
Key Details from the Revelation
-
Narrative Split: The film follows the original epic’s early trajectory. Part 1 focuses on Rama’s early life, marriage, and exile, while Ravana’s arc remains separate in Lanka.
-
The Big Clash: Fans will have to wait for Part 2 to witness the iconic confrontation between the two actors.
-
Off-Screen Dynamic: Despite the lack of shared scenes, Yash praised Ranbir Kapoor as a “fabulous actor,” noting that their mutual respect and shared vision for the project have created a strong off-screen chemistry.
Nitesh Tiwari’s Vision: A “Grey” Ravana
Director Nitesh Tiwari intends to move beyond a binary “good vs. evil” trope. He plans to showcase Ravana as a multi-faceted character:
-
Scholarly King: The film will highlight Ravana’s identity as a master musician, scholar, and devout Shiva bhakt.
-
The Lesson: Tiwari emphasizes that Ravana’s story serves as a cautionary tale about how ego and vengeance can destroy even the most gifted and benevolent of kings.
The Massive Scale of the “Ramayana” Franchise

-
Unprecedented Budget: The combined budget for both parts is reported to be $500 million (approx. ₹4,000 crore).
-
VFX Powerhouse: Visual effects are being handled by the 8-time Oscar-winning studio DNEG.
-
Musical Symphony: In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Academy Award winners AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer are co-composing the score.
