New Delhi | April 02, 2026 — The Directorate of Civil Defence, in coordination with the DDMA, Delhi Police, Indian Army, and NDRF, is conducting a massive mock drill across the national capital starting at 8 PM tonight.
This exercise is designed to test civilian readiness and emergency response coordination amid the ongoing regional geopolitical tensions. Residents should expect to hear air raid sirens and see blackout protocols enforced in key commercial and residential hubs.
What to Expect During the Drill
The drill follows the framework of Operation Abhyas—a protocol last seen in May 2025—and will involve 11 districts and over 55 locations.
-
Sirens: Standard air raid signals will be sounded to test the reach of the public notification system.
-
Blackouts: Key areas, including Connaught Place and Khan Market, are expected to implement temporary blackout measures.
-
Personnel: Increased presence of security forces and emergency vehicles will be visible on the streets.
Dos and Don’ts for Residents
The last time such a comprehensive drill was conducted in Delhi was during Operation Sindoor in May 2025. Today’s exercise aims to refine the “Operation Abhyas” protocols mandated by the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure that the capital’s infrastructure and citizenry can respond effectively to any sudden escalations in the regional conflict.
Important Note: Authorities have reiterated that this is a mock exercise. There is no immediate threat to the city, and all services will return to normal shortly after the drill concludes.
