MUMBAI — Actor and dancer Nora Fatehi has officially addressed the wave of backlash surrounding her latest dance number in the upcoming pan-Indian film KD: The Devil. The song, titled “Sarse Ninna Seraga Sarse” in its original Kannada version, sparked a heated debate online over its lyrical content.
The track, which features Nora alongside Bollywood veteran Sanjay Dutt, was written and directed by the film’s filmmaker, Prem. Shortly after its release, social media was flooded with criticism from fans and members of the film fraternity who labeled the lyrics as “obscene” and “distasteful.”
Nora’s Defense
Breaking her silence on the matter, Nora Fatehi distanced herself from the lyrical intent of the song. Speaking to the media, she emphasized her role as a professional performer rather than a content creator.
“I don’t endorse vulgarity,” Nora stated. “My job as an artist is to execute the vision provided by the director and the choreographer. I focus on the technicality of the dance and the performance.”
Industry and Fan Backlash
The controversy highlights a growing tension in the Kannada film industry regarding the “item song” culture in pan-Indian cinema. Critics argued that the lyrics crossed a line, overshadowing the musicality of the track. Despite the star power of Sanjay Dutt and Nora’s high-octane choreography, the lyrical choices became the primary talking point, leading to calls for better censorship or creative restraint.
