More than two decades after the release of Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002), producer KC Bokadia has shared a heartwarming anecdote about Shah Rukh Khan’s professional integrity and generosity. Despite the film’s star-studded cast—including Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit—the project struggled at the box office, leading to a gesture from SRK that Bokadia has never forgotten.
The Initial Pitch: “I’ll Do It For You”
Bokadia recalled approaching SRK with a bold offer of Rs 2 crore for 20 days of work—a significant sum in the late 90s when the actor’s usual fee was around Rs 1–1.5 crore.
-
Honest Reaction: After watching the original Tamil film (Thotta Chinungi), SRK admitted to Bokadia, “I don’t understand such kind of films. But I will do it for you.”
-
No Star Demands: Despite the long production period (the film took nearly six years to complete), SRK remained committed to the project out of respect for the veteran producer.
The Rs 95 Lakh Gesture
When the film failed to perform as expected, Bokadia found himself owing Shah Rukh Khan a balance of Rs 95 lakh. When the producer insisted on paying to keep his word, the actor’s response left him stunned:
“Don’t worry about it. I can earn Rs 95 lakh by making an appearance for 5 minutes at a wedding. You will have to pay me by selling off your assets.”
Bokadia praised the actor’s “good nature,” noting that very few stars would prioritize a producer’s financial stability over their own contracted fees.
