Authorities in the national capital are mounting massive security arrangements, deploying 23,000 security personnel and enforcing strict multi-layered barricading ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) planned nationwide protest on Saturday, October 10. The demonstration targets Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over electoral oversight concerns.
Security Deployment and Measures
According to security sources, the Union Home Ministry has sanctioned the deployment of 221 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) companies between October 8 and 12, supplementing an additional 110 CAPF companies allocated directly to the Delhi Police.
-
Personnel Breakdown: The security grid includes 20,000 Delhi Police personnel alongside thousands of CAPF troops, comprising 85 CRPF companies, 10 SSB units, seven ITBP companies, seven Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams, and one CISF company.
-
Surveillance and Infrastructure: Strict electronic and physical monitoring will be in place across all Delhi borders, transit hubs (including railway stations and bus terminals), and within New Delhi metro stations. Authorities are also implementing Face Recognition System (FRS) cameras linked directly to central control rooms.
-
Legal and Restrictive Orders: Provisions under BNSS Section 163 are in effect to maintain public order, empowering executive magistrates to prohibit unauthorized assemblies and large gatherings.
Broader Context
Neighbouring states, including Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, have been placed on high alert to coordinate crowd management and monitor cross-border movement.
The upcoming protest follows intense political friction in Delhi, including recent opposition mobilizations by the INDIA bloc demanding the CEC’s resignation over electoral roll revisions and transparency issues. While organizers led by CJP spokesperson Saurav Das have pressed forward with plans for a large-scale demonstration at Jantar Mantar, police have emphasized strict adherence to regulatory protocols and prior clearance guidelines.
