Audi has shattered efficiency benchmarks after an Audi A6 Sportback e-tron Performance successfully traveled 1,338 km (831 miles) on a single battery charge, securing a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered by an electric car without recharging.
The grueling, 45-hour endurance-and-efficiency run was piloted across Poland by European Rally Champion and Polish rally driver Miko Marczyk. The feat comfortably outperformed the previous benchmark of 1,205 km and eclipsed the car’s official WLTP rating of up to 777 km by more than 70 percent.
Inside the Record-Breaking Journey
The journey kicked off in the early hours of September 11, routing along the Vistula River through major Polish cities—including Kraków, Sandomierz, Warsaw, Toruń, and up to Hel on the Baltic coast—before heading back.
Unlike closed-track driving tests, Marczyk achieved this milestone under real-world public road conditions, navigating regular traffic congestion, rush-hour bottlenecks, and fluctuating temperatures ranging from a chilly 7°C in the morning to an average of 15°C.
-
The Driver’s Focus: Instead of speed, Marczyk prioritized ultra-high efficiency, maintaining a staggering low energy consumption average of just 7.09 kWh per 100 km.
-
The Hardware: The production vehicle utilized a 100 kWh gross (94.9 kWh net) battery pack built on Audi’s advanced 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture.
Key Factors Behind the Milestone
Audi attributes the record-breaking range to a combination of cutting-edge vehicle engineering and hyper-disciplined driving tactics:
-
Class-Leading Aerodynamics: The A6 Sportback e-tron boasts an ultra-sleek drag coefficient ($Cd$) of 0.21, making it the most aerodynamic production car in Audi’s history. This drastically minimized energy loss against air resistance at speed.
-
Advanced Energy Recovery: The car’s robust regenerative braking system can recover up to 220 kW of energy during deceleration, handling the vast majority of everyday braking events without engaging physical friction brakes.
-
Eco-Driving Discipline: Marczyk relied on precision techniques—maintaining steady momentum, smooth anticipatory braking, minimizing abrupt acceleration, and ensuring optimal tire pressure to combat rolling resistance.
A Technical Showcase
While Audi emphasizes that this 1,338 km figure is a specialized efficiency demonstration rather than a representation of typical day-to-day driving range (where high highway speeds and climate control use come into play), the record powerfully underscores the high threshold of modern EV powertrain optimization.
