Renowned social activist and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mumbai’s Bombay Hospital following a deterioration in his health.
According to medical sources, the 87-year-old activist initially received treatment at a local medical facility near his native village of Ralegan Siddhi. However, due to complications arising from a severe viral infection, dehydration, and ongoing kidney function assessments, he was rushed to Mumbai for advanced medical care.
Current Medical Status
Hazare is currently under constant observation in the ICU, where he is being treated by Dr. Gautam Bhansali. Medical teams are conducting detailed diagnostic evaluations to monitor his vital signs and formulate a comprehensive treatment plan based on the test results.
A Lifetime of Public Activism
Born in 1937, Anna Hazare rose to national and international prominence as one of India’s leading social reformers and anti-corruption crusaders. He initially gained widespread acclaim for transforming his home village of Ralegan Siddhi into a model of rural self-reliance through watershed development, afforestation, and anti-addiction initiatives.
On the national stage, Hazare spearheaded historic movements advocating for the Right to Information (RTI) Act and the Jan Lokpal Bill, utilizing non-violent hunger strikes to demand governmental transparency. His contributions to society have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Padma Bhushan in 1992 and the Maharashtra Bhushan award.
More recently, Hazare remained active in public advocacy, writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and holding a silent fast in Ahilyanagar in July 2026 to support student demonstrations demanding accountability over competitive exam paper leak irregularities.
