One of Bollywood’s most beloved on-screen partnerships of the 1990s is officially reuniting. Nearly two decades after they last shared the screen in Tashan (2008), Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan are pairing up for Haiwaan, an intense psychological thriller directed by Priyadarshan.
The Premise: A High-Stakes Remake
Haiwaan is the official Hindi adaptation of the critically acclaimed 2016 Malayalam blockbuster Oppam, which originally starred Mohanlal.
-
The Storyline: The narrative revolves around a blind man who possesses heightened sensory perception. When he is framed for a murder he did not commit, he must use his sharp instincts to track down the actual killer, protect an innocent child, and clear his name.
-
The Conflict: While Mohanlal played the central protagonist in the original, the Hindi adaptation is expected to expand the cat-and-mouse dynamic, positioning Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar on opposite sides of a dark, suspenseful chase.
Recreating the Priyadarshan Magic
The project marks a major reunion not just for the lead actors, but also for their relationship with director Priyadarshan.
-
Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan have delivered some of Hindi cinema’s biggest comedy cult classics, including Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and De Dana Dan.
-
Rather than returning to comedy, Haiwaan pivots back to Priyadarshan’s talent for suspenseful, tight thrillers—a genre he mastered with films like Nishaad and Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
-
Behind the Music: Pritam is on board to compose the soundtrack, promising a high-tempo, atmospheric background score to anchor the film’s tension.
The first look posters use a stark, split-color scheme (acid yellow and blood red) to establish a highly stylized, grim atmosphere. Haiwaan is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on September 11, 2026.
