One of Bollywood’s most heavily publicized family rifts officially came to a close earlier this year. Now, Govinda’s wife, Sunita Ahuja, has shared the exact, emotionally charged moment that ended her 14-year estrangement from nephew Krushna Abhishek and his wife, Kashmera Shah.
The Breakdown on Set
While appearing on the reality show Lock Upp Season 2, Sunita confided in co-contestants Madhuri Grover and Akanksha Chaudhary about how the ice finally melted during a meeting on the sets of the show Laughter Chefs.
Sunita revealed that the weight of a decade and a half of silence dissolved in an instant when Kashmera approached her directly.
“Kashmera is a sweet girl. She fell at my feet, crying, and apologised. I also started crying after seeing them after 14 years. Kashmera was at my feet and said, ‘Sorry, it was my mistake.'” — Sunita Ahuja
Overcoming Deep Grudges
The emotional fallout ran deep for Sunita, who noted that she had essentially raised Krushna during his childhood. Because of the prolonged bitter feud, she had never even met Krushna and Kashmera’s children, who are now nine years old.
Confirming the patch-up, Sunita expressed a sense of relief and a desire to leave the past behind:
-
Forgiveness: “How long can I be angry with my kids? Why hold grudges when everyone is happy in their own space?”
-
The Legacy: She paid tribute to Krushna’s late mother, who was her absolute favorite family member and the first person to know about her and Govinda’s relationship.
Origins of the Conflict
The long-standing family dispute reportedly sparked back in 2016. A joke made on The Kapil Sharma Show deeply offended Govinda and Sunita, triggering a cascading series of public misunderstandings, social media barbs, and media statements primarily between Sunita and Kashmera.
With apologies formally made and accepted, the family has explicitly chosen to move forward with blessings rather than bitterness.
