As anticipation builds for Yash Raj Films’ upcoming spy-thriller Alpha, the recently released trailer has sparked a wave of mixed reactions online, with some internet users mocking lead actress Alia Bhatt for her high-octane stunt sequences.
Stepping up to defend the actress, internationally acclaimed action director Craig Macrae heavily praised Alia and her co-star Sharvari for their relentless discipline and commitment to the film’s grueling hand-to-hand combat scenes.
Going Above and Beyond
Speaking to ANI, Macrae highlighted how Alia’s backstage dedication sets her apart from other contemporary stars.
“What sets Alia Bhatt apart from those other female stars is that I think her work ethic is absolutely incredible. She’s really put in a lot of time and a lot of effort into preparing for Alpha… She’s one of those people who you can really feel is willing to put in the amount of work that is required and then some, to go above and beyond what’s needed for the film.”
Macrae also showered praise on the collective teamwork between the two female leads, noting that finding actors willing to dedicate that much physical effort to stunt and skills training is “very rare.”

Trailer Insights: A Mythological Flip
The trailer offers a compelling glimpse into the film’s narrative framework. Bobby Deol plays the central villain, who refers to Alia’s character as “Sita”—a name gifted by her mother, Janaki.
Through a powerful voiceover by Alia, the film flips the traditional trope of a princess waiting to be rescued. Instead, Sita chooses to pick up weapons and rewrite her own destiny. While she initially struggles to trust Sharvari’s character, the two eventually team up to take down a massive, formidable enemy.
