BMW has officially pulled the wraps off its M Concept Neue Klasse at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, offering the clearest look yet at the future of the brand’s high-performance M division. Based on BMW’s next-generation “Neue Klasse” EV architecture, this striking concept directly previews the highly anticipated, all-electric M3 successor.
Rather than simply swapping an engine for an electric motor, BMW M has engineered a bespoke EV platform from the ground up to maintain its signature motorsport DNA.
A Quad-Motor Powertrain with Individual Wheel Control
The most revolutionary engineering is hidden beneath the concept’s sheet metal. Moving away from traditional dual-motor setups, BMW has developed a specialized quad-motor M eDrive system:
-
Four Independent Motors: Each wheel is powered by its own dedicated electric motor.
-
Dynamic Performance Control: Custom M software handles power delivery and braking torque to each individual wheel instantaneously, promising unprecedented cornering agility.
-
High-Voltage Architecture: The system uses an 800-volt electrical foundation paired with a massive battery pack exceeding 100 kWh.
-
Next-Gen Battery Cells: Sixth-generation cylindrical battery cells provide higher peak output during hard acceleration and significantly faster charging times.
Aggressive, Track-Focused Styling
While the core glasshouse structure bears a resemblance to the standard Neue Klasse i3 sedan concept, the M variant features radical, aerodynamically optimized styling cues.
The concept is finished in a striking Monza Red metallic paint scheme, heavily contrasted by dark-finished lightweight natural fiber components on the front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, hood scoop, and roof.
The front end ditches traditional styling for a bumper layout inspired by high-speed multihull sailing boats, surrounded by heritage-inspired M Yellow Lights and stacked, cube-shaped LED “track lights.” Widespread fender flares, center-lock wheels set with negative camber, and a prominent rear ducktail spoiler give the car an unmistakably wide, low racing stance.
Interior: Race Car Meets Next-Gen Tech
Inside, the cabin swaps the minimalist passenger layout of the base i3 concept for a strict, performance-first environment.
| Interior Feature | Material & Design | Functional Purpose |
| Seating | 4 independent bucket seats trimmed in Merino leather | Outfitted with professional 5-point harness belts for track use. |
| Safety Cage | Structural roll cage wrapped in premium Nubuck leather | Matches the steering wheel material while increasing chassis rigidity. |
| Tech Display | Full-width BMW Panoramic iDrive screen | Positioned perfectly at the base of the windshield to display critical performance data. |
| Controls | Custom steering wheel and center console with red accents | Provides quick-access toggles to change drivetrain and suspension dynamics. |
By blending next-generation 800-volt charging technology with a track-ready quad-motor layout, the M Concept Neue Klasse serves notice that BMW intends to keep raw driving dynamics alive in the electric era.
